Meet the ODROID-H5

ODROID returns with its most feature-rich model yet. Barely larger than a NUC motherboard the compact 120x120mm system comes with a built-in 10GbE Ethernet port and packs an impressive four M.2 slots (three PCIe Gen 3 x2 and one PCIe Gen 3 x1) to accommodate multiple NVMe drives, AI accelerators, or expansion cards. The ODROID-H5 is powered by the highly efficient Intel Core i3-N300 and comes with a capable aluminum heatsink for $250 / 285€.

The ODROID H-series is back

The popular SBC from Korea's Hardkernel is back and this new iteration is powered by Jasper Lake processors. The $129 ODROID-H3 features the 10W Celeron N5105 (4C / 4T up to 2.90GHz) while the $165 ODROID-H3+ features the 10W Pentium N6005 (4C / 4T up to 3.30GHz). Both feature the same gorgeous I/O as before, and an even larger CPU cooler. The only drawback of this exciting little machine is probably the outrageous shipping cost from Korea.

✓ Up to 64GB Dual-channel Memory DDR4 PC4-23400 (2933MT/s)
✓ Two SO-DIMM slots, up to 32GB per slot
✓ PCIe 3.0 x 4 lanes for one M.2 NVMe storage
✓ 2 x 2.5Gbit Ethernet ports (Realtek)
✓ 2 x SATA 3.0 ports SSE4.2 accelerator
✓ Intel UHD Graphics
✓ HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4

ODROID-H2+ available

The hugely successful NUC-sized fanless motherboard is back. Surprisingly, this brand new iteration is powered by the unknown quad-core Celeron J4115 (4C / 4T up to 2.5GHz). According to Hardkernel:

"We announced the ODROID H2 in November 2018 as a new generation of single board computers. Despite its success we could not ship enough of them to satisfy the demand due to the Intel Gemini Lake J4105 CPU supply shortage. Fortunately, Intel started early this year to offer a slightly modified chip called the J4115 for small manufacturers like us."

The ODROID-H2+ features two SO-DIMM slots, four PCIe 2.0 lanes (one for the NVMe M.2 SSD), two 2.5Gbit Ethernet ports, two SATA 3.0, HDMI 2.0 and DP 1.2 ports for only $119. Please note that the ODROID ships from South Korea though, customers may be subject to customs fees and taxes.

ODROID-H2 video review

The Hardkernel Gemini Lake system sold out pretty much instantly, but will be back in stock this spring. The ODROID-H2 is a unique product, and technically the affordable fanless NUC we're all waiting for.

Update: It's still available from a third-party seller.

Gemini Lake shortage confirmed

Yesterday's ODROID-H2 launch was extremely successful, in fact all 2,000 units sold out within hours. The bad news is that a second batch isn't coming anytime soon. Hardkernel just confirmed the Gemini Lake scarcity: "Due to Intel's serious supplying issue these days, they can supply the Gemini Lake SoC in February or March 2019". Given Intel's manufacturing problems, it is rumored that TSMC could take over production of Jacobsville, Gemini Lake's successor.

Gemini Lake ODROID on the way

We usually don't cover single board computers but since established brands are denying us fanless Gemini Lake motherboards with DC power and M.2 slot, meet ODROID-H2.

Powered by the desktop-grade Celeron J4105 (10W TDP) the NUC-sized barebone features an impressive heat sink and two SO-DIMM slots, four PCIe 2.0 lanes, two Gbit Ethernet ports, two SATA 3.0, HDMI 2.0 and DP 1.2 ports. A pretty fantastic offering. Available in November.

Update: Powerful enough to emulate the Wii.
