Shuttle DL40N review

"The conservative power limits mean the DL40N is not the fastest system around, but we really enjoyed the oversized CPU heatsink which does not heat up excessively to affect the nearby M.2 slot where usually we have an SSD installed. We recommend going forward with a PCIe 3.0 SSD instead of 4.0 because of the lower dissipated heat and the supplied thick thermal pad can help with heat transfer to the 2.5’’ SSD/HDD tray. DL40N can be easily used for different tasks which have lower demands in terms of resources, edge computing, high-availability client/sever setups, digital signage, industrial control and more!"

Shuttle's NE10N disappoints

"The NE10N is a huge performance step up from the old Asrock Celeron CPU. No problem using the web browsers and stream video in Full HD / 1080p 1920 x 1080 (that is the highest our old TV can handle).

I started to measure the CPU core temps with HWMonitor in different configurations. Each ”setup” was used at least 24 hours with the same room temp. I never got an idle temp below 67C… Also note the max temp numbers at 95C…

I had a Noctua NF-P12 Redux-1300 fan at home. It is a 120 mm 12 volt fan that will run from 5 volt USB at a low RPM. It is impossible to hear any fan noise from this fan at 5v. What a difference! The idle temp drops to 49C and high load to 74C. That is -20C from normal use!"

Shuttle NE10N launched

Shuttle unveils its most stylish fanless PC to date, and we're not impressed, at all. Shuttle seems to have focused on outward appearance at the expense of cooling. The NE10N features an internal CPU cooler in a case that prevents convection to occur. In fact, it looks like it's designed like an actively-cooled PC, with small vents at the back. The NE10N uses an Intel N100 processor, which, despite its modest 6W TDP, has a tendency to run very hot. The 135 x 115 x 39mm barebone supports one M.2 NVMe SSD, one DDR4 module, and is already available in France for 290 euros.

FIRST LOOK: Shuttle DS50U

We have a soft spot for Shuttle's PCs. Shuttle was pioneer in the field of fanless mini PCs starting with the Atom-powered X27D in 2008 and the wildly popular XS35 series in 2010. Meet the new Core-based DS50U (expect i3, i5, and i7 models, stay tuned for details) featuring a new convection-friendly chassis and possibly a larger internal heat sink. Connectivity and ease-of-use are still industry-leading.

Shuttle's DL20N SERIES is official

Featuring superior cooling and impressive connectivity compared to the ASUS, ZOTAC, and GIGABYTE options, Shuttle's DL20N is already our favorite fanless Jasper Lake mini PC. Following the popular DL10J (powered by the Gemini Lake Celeron J4005) this new iteration is actually composed of three SKUs: Celeron N4505, Celeron N5105, and Pentium N6005.

"The Shuttle XPC slim DL20N is a low-power consumption and affordable business and productivity computer. Within the fanless chassis of body thickness 43mm, the DL20N integrates high-performance CPU and chipset, peripheral expandability, and network connectivity, makes it well suits to use in education, office, thin-client, IoT edge computing, digital signage, etc. Featuring the Intel® Jasper Lake processors with Intel UHD Graphics and supporting high-speed 2933 MHz DDR4 memory, this model can promise reliable performance for multitasking and 4K/UHD resolution. In addition, the DL20N equipped rich I/O interfaces such as USB3.2 Gen2, USB 2.0, and COM ports, supporting triple display by the DisplayPort, HDMI, and VGA port. Furthermore, the ability to support multiple networks is essential for the construction of IoT applications; the DL20N supports one Gigabit LAN, includes an M.2 module for IEEE 802.11ac WiFi expansion, and provides 4G/LTE module options to meet diverse application needs.

Intel® Jasper Lake processors, a low-power consumption 10nm chips with new core/GPU architectures, with performance improvements of up to 35% over Gemini Lake chips and up to 30% increase in IPC (instructions per clock), plus supports dual-channel DDR4-2933 memory up to 16GB (8GBx2), to ensure smooth operations for the entire system but also 4K UHD high-details contents.

DL20N series provides an HDMI, a DisplayPort, and VGA outputs to reach three independent displays. Supports resolutions up to 4096 x 2160 / 3840 x 2160 @ 60Hz.

The DL20N has excellent network connectivity powered by an Intel® i211 Gigabit LAN and includes an M.2 slot enabling IEEE 802.11ac WiFi expansion. In addition, to provide more network connection options, the DL20N also provides an optional 4G/LTE expansion kit to meet diverse networking environment needs.

With a passive thermal cooling system, the fanless design reduces the power consumption required by a fan as well as the cost of replacing fans on-site. Use solid-state disks and create an operational platform completely free of noise.

Officially approved for 24/7 permanent operation. Thanks to Shuttle’s low power consumption design and stable operation, the PC runs highly reliable and meets the long-term demands of digital signage or other vertical applications."
