Broadwell NanoPCs released (and why rooting for Foxconn is hard)

 

After skipping Haswell, Foxconn's affordable NanoPCs are back and Broadwell-powered:

The trouble is that, like HP and ASUS, Foxconn is cashing on the fanless craze with questionable graphics and presentation ("0dB noise"?), when their Core-based systems have been proven fan-cooled.

A rep for Foxconn confirmed us that the new NanoPCs are, indeed, not fanless.

Sweet deal at Newegg: a free 64GB ADATA SSD for any AT-5570 purchase.

We're still curious about the performance (and the temperatures) of this little box. The lack of vents and the size of the heatsink does puzzle us a bit.

Ixbt.com offers a review and some cool pictures. Our Russian is a little rusty, but they don't look too pleased.

Foxconn AT-5250 now on sale in Europe

Foxconn's Atom-based fanless Nano PC is now available in Germany for €400. Ouch.

This marks the end of a painful year-long journey for Foxconn (episode 1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

Since so many of our readers struggle with the PowerVR SGX545 GPU, we will not cover Cedarview products from now on. Bring on Valleyview!

Foxconn AT-5570

Foxconn is definitely persevering. With such a tiny heatsink, we feared that their fanless PC couldn't handle the heat of a 17W APU.

Indeed, the E450 version got canceled. Foxconn is planning another AMD-based Nano PC with a more modest C-70 chip (9W TDP) this time.

Foxconn finally releases its fanless NanoPC

This nice project we had the chance to scoop up in may has been a train wreck from almost day one. After several redesigns (a new CPU, a new power button, and possibly a new cooling system) the final product is here at last.

Well, half of it. The AMD E450 version is nowhere to be found (too hot for such a small heatsink?)

From the box to the aluminum finish, Foxconn's long awaited Nano PC looks like a Mac mini from a parallel universe.

We'd have preferred a smaller homage, and a bigger heatsink.

FOXCONN NANO PC UPDATE

After a slight delay (due to Intel's abrupt cancellation of its Atom D2700?) Foxconn's range of fanless Nano PCs will be available worldwide this september.

The AT-5600 is still based on AMD’s E450 APU, but the AT-5250 now sports an Atom D2550 at 1.86 Ghz. Both are more expensive than initially announced ($280 and $260 respectively).

FOXCONN NANO PC

Exclusive: Foxconn is jumping in the fanless bandwagon and we're pretty pleased with that. Be on the lookout for an official announcement regarding 2 new passively-cooled Nano PCs.

The AT-5300 is powered by Intel Dual Core Atom D2700 running at 2.13GHz and the AT-5600 is powered by AMD Dual Core E450 1.65GHz APU.

Both are 40 times smaller than your average PC tower, and power consumption at load is about 24W (only 15W in idle state).
