GIGABYTE N4120I H announced
This brand new GIGABYTE motherboard is powered by the aging Celeron N4120 5gemini Lake refresh) but does feature the latest tech, including NVMe SSD support, and Intel CNVi Gigabit WIFI (a sharp contrast to the neighboring VGA and PS/2 ports). The N4120I H also features two SO-DIMM slots, HDMI 2.0, GbE LAN (Realtek), two SATA 6Gb/s connectors, and one PCIe x16 slot. GIGABYTE's fanless motherboards are usually available under $100.

GIGABYTE goes Jasper Lake
We're not sure if the chip shortage is to blame or if low-power boards are on the way out, but Jasper Lake motherboards are extremely rare. GIGABYTE launches the N5105I H, powered by the 10W Celeron N5105 (4C / 4T up to 2.90 GHz) and featuring two SO-DIMM slots (up to 16GB), HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.2, four USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 (in red), and Realtek GbE LAN. NVMe support is a first in this category, and definitively a big selling point.

Jasper Lake floods Europe
All fanless Jasper Lake mini PCs are now available in Europe. Shuttle's DL20N is definitely our favorite and is powered by the Celeron N4505. This barebone offers the best flexibility and reliability. It's available in France and Germany. ZOTAC's ZBOX CI331 is slightly more powerful, thanks to the quad-core Celeron N5100. It's also more compact (think Intel NUC) for 350 euros. GIGABYTE's GB-BMCE-4500C and the ASUS PN41 are more affordable but also less sophisticated options, featuring underwhelming cooling systems.

Jasper Lake ASUS PN41 available
The Jasper Lake PN41 is now available as a Windows 10 PC featuring 4GB RAM and a 128GB SSD for £269.99. The fanless NUC features the 6W Celeron N5100, 2.5 GbE LAN, WiFi 6, and 24/7 reliability. In other good news, the Jasper Lake GIGABYTE BRIX featuring the entry-level Celeron N4500 (GB-BMCE-4500C) is now listed on CCL Computers.

Meet the Jasper Lake BRIX
We will not have to wait 2022 for a Jasper Lake desktop after all, and this one is fanless out of the box. GIGABYTE's GB-BMCE-4500C is powered by the 6W Celeron N4500 and should be available in the coming weeks for 159 euros. Cooling looks rudimentary, and consists of an internal CPU heat sink. Temperature-wise, we can already tell that this BRIX will perform better when VESA-mounted.

Perfect add on
This tiny card adds two additional RJ45 ports to GIGABYTE's 10th Gen BRIX mini PCs, including the GB-BRi7H-10710, GB-BRi7H-10510, GB-BRi5H-10210, GB-BRi5H-10210E, and GB-BRi3H-10110. One is a welcome Intel LAN (210AT), while the other acts as a COM port (RS-232). We'd love to see it available for the original Intel NUC.

The elusive i9-9900T
Someone finally managed to get an i9-9900T. While previous generations were relatively available, the 35W Coffee Lake processors are nowhere to be found. Paired with the GIGABYTE Z390I AORUS PRO WiFi motherboard and the HDPLEX H1 case, the 8-core 16-thread CPU is kept under 79°C during stress test (92W power consumption). Fingers crossed for 35W Comet Lake chips available in retail boxes.

Why the discrepancies?
Why drastically different approaches between industrial and commercial products? In other words, why crappy cooling for mainstream fanless mini PCs? Most of them are failures due to horrible thermals, and things need to change.
The upcoming ZBOX Edge is a first step in the right direction. Cooling fins shouldn't be hidden, because it impedes cooling efficiency, but also because they look great.

New GIGABYTE single board computer
According to GIGABYTE itself, the new GA-SBCAP3940 is powered by the "Celeron E3940" which is surprisingly inaccurate. The E3940 is actually an Apollo Lake Atom. The 9.5W TDP processor features 4 cores clocked at 1.60 GHz (up to 1.80 GHz).
The 146 x 102 mm motherboard features one mSATA slot, one DDR3L SO-DIMM slot (up to 8 GB), two SATA connectors, HDMI output, two USB 3.0 ports, SIM socket and two GbE LAN ports. The GA-SBCAP3940 comes with a panel / case that doubles as a heat sink.
